Signs initially pointed to Instagram Reels, Youtube Shorts ā but it seems like those platforms aren't enough.
Monetization complications and a lack of community have swayed users to satisfy their itch elsewhere.

Enter: Rednote.
Rednote quickly became the #1 downloaded app in the App Store as users flock to the platform as a potential TikTok alternative.
We didnāt expect users to switch over to a non-American social media platform ā but Gen Z has proven to be unexpected.
Everyone has been posting their introductions on Rednote, calling themselves a TikTok refugee in hopes of regaining a following.
The hashtag āTikTok refugeeā garnered nearly 560 million views and over 1.7 million comments.
Even Duolingo was in on the joke.
The app reported a 216% increase in US users learning Mandarin Chinese to overcome the language barriers of Rednote.
Duolingo posted their own reactions on Instagram and TikTok ā poking fun at people for going to them for Mandarin Chinese lessons.
Rednote became the next best thing, now offering English translations on posts and comments.
However, it seems like TikTok is here to stay ā for now.
In other words, the TikTok migration may be canceled.

Q: How did it feel to not have access to TikTok for 14 hours?
A: Honestly, it was jarring to wrap my mind around the gap it left in my day-to-day. The app has become a major part of a userās day, sure - but from a marketerās POV, itās become a go-to for concept research, cultural inspiration and timely trends to inject into brandsā content strategy. One thing people donāt understand is the full extent to which tiktok dictated public discourse. TikTok did not only serve as a platform for creators but it also fueled the growth on other platforms too because a lot of conversations that started on TikTok spilled over to Reels, X and Shorts. It felt limiting not just as a user but also as a marketer, to not have my go-to source for research, education and inspiration.
Q: Even though the ban didn't go through on Jan 19th, what was the biggest takeaway from brands and creators' response to the threat of the ban?
A: Donāt put all your eggs in one basket. We saw how creators and brands were quick to jump to other platforms as alternatives to TikTok. Users were scared to lose the one platform they were so familiar with. We have to treat TikTok as top of funnel awareness and discovery; donāt make it your entire funnel. It may also benefit to seek creator partnerships off TikTok as well - especially if you think your audience is also present on other channels (and not just YT and IG). Platforms like Substack are good alternatives to turn to when diversifying content.
