🦉 Duolingo showed up to the CharliXCX concert dressed to impress
Here’s why their marketing stunt went viral
Charli XCX just performed her first show on her “Sweat” tour and Duolingo showed up to pull their most unhinged marketing stunt yet.
The team knew Charli’s concert would be heavily recorded and posted on social media, and so they showed up dressed to impress — as the duo owl.
This is a prime example of guerilla marketing.
While Duolingo did post about their appearance at the concert, most of the videos that went viral actually came from other people's accounts and POVs.
The UGC videos of the duo birds at the concert went viral and amassed millions of views on TikTok.
Duolingo is already known for their wild marketing stunts, but they took it a step further this time by choosing to spend their budget on concert tickets and tactical virality instead of taking the traditional route of ad or billboard placements.
What do you think of Duo’s marketing play?
🔮 Predictive analytics is the key to retaining customers
Here are 5 strategies to leverage it to reduce churn
Acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than retaining an existing customer.
A brand has a 60-70% chance of making a sale to a retained existing customer, but that percentage drops dramatically to 20% for net new customers.
All this is to say: keeping and valuing your existing customers is both strategic and important.
Predictive analytics is used to drive customer retention by transforming extremely large amounts of data into digestible and actionable insights.
Here are 3 strategies to reduce customer churn using predictive analytics
Customer Journey Mapping: Create detailed maps of each customer journey, highlighting the most common paths that lead to churn. Optimize the customer experience at each critical touchpoint, ensuring a smoother progression from step to step that reduces the likelihood of churn.
Behavioral Triggers for Engagements: Predictive analytics can identify key behavioral triggers that indicate when a customer is about to disengage.
Customer Lifecycle Segmentation: You can segment your customer base according to their lifecycle stage (e.g. new, active, at-risk, lapsed, etc.) and use predictive analytics to then further refine these segments based on behavior and preferences.

🎙️ Q&A with an expert
A bi-weekly interview series with the best in the game
Q: What's your take on using AI in design and what it means for creativity?
A: My take is that AI is here to stay whether we like it or not. Designers will need to adapt and learn how to utilize it to their advantage. AI is becoming increasingly accessible which means our creativity will be tested and our boundaries will be pushed. What might've been impossible in the past due to lack of resources, is now possible thanks to AI.
Q: How should growth designers best use AI to complement — but not replace — their work and their process?
A: AI can be seen as a vehicle to help you get from point A to point B, but you are still the driver. Just like any other program, AI is just a tool to help execute a creative idea more efficiently. You still need your human thoughts and skills to oversee the quality, input prompts, and make sure the idea is authentic to the brand/client you're working for. Therefore it's still important to know basic design practices and have a good eye to refine the final product.
